How to create a UPI QR code
- Enter your UPI ID and the name customers should see.
- Optionally add a fixed amount and a note, for example an invoice number.
- Scan it with another phone to test it, then download it to print or share on WhatsApp.
The QR code follows the standard NPCI UPI format, so it works with every UPI app in India.
Who it’s for
- Shops and stalls: print one QR code with no amount and stick it at the counter.
- Freelancers and tutors: add the amount and invoice number so clients pay exactly what they owe.
- Friends and family: collect money for trips, gifts or shared bills.
- Events and donations: put a QR code on posters, tickets or a donation box.
Getting a lot of payments every day? The merchant QR from your bank or payment app adds payment alerts, sound boxes and settlement reports that a personal UPI QR doesn’t have.
Stay safe with UPI
- You never need to scan a QR code or enter your UPI PIN to receive money. Anyone asking you to do that is trying to scam you.
- Before paying, check the payee name your UPI app shows. It should match who you expect to pay.
- Shop owners: check the QR code at your counter regularly. Scammers sometimes paste their own QR code over a shop’s.
Frequently asked questions
Is the UPI QR code generator free?
Yes. Creating the QR code is free, and UPI payments from customers to you are free for both sides.
Which apps can pay using this QR code?
Any UPI app: Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, Amazon Pay, CRED, WhatsApp Pay and bank apps.
Where do I find my UPI ID?
Open your UPI app and tap your profile picture. Your UPI ID looks like name@okaxis, 98xxxxxx@ybl or name@paytm.
Is it safe to share my UPI QR code?
Yes. The QR code contains only your UPI ID and name, the same as telling someone your UPI ID. Nobody can take money from your account with it. Money only moves when the payer enters their own UPI PIN.
Can I set a fixed amount?
Yes. Enter an amount and the payer’s app fills it in. Leave it empty to let the payer type any amount, which is best for a shop counter.
Does this QR code expire?
No. It keeps working as long as your UPI ID is active. If you change your UPI ID or bank account, create a new QR code.
